Laurie: I’ve got a sister that pushes my buttons like no other human being walking around this earth, been dating/marrying/whatever  photo_10991_20091228since I was twelve, sometimes find myself the bridge between Southern and Italian relatives, have introduced different cultures to my     friends and family on a regular basis, and was walking around pretty sure that I had relationships down pat.  Now I find I have to have a relationship with my MONEY!

elizabeth: I am pretty lucky when it comes to siblings. Being one of seven, you would think that there would be fighting, but no. We like each other. Can’t say I know them all that well – maybe one or two. Can’t say any of them know me that well either. They still keep me frozen at the age of 16.  I hate that.  But we all seem to agree on a lot of issues except for one sibling. I explain this one by saying that she or he had different reading matter in the womb. Or was abandoned by wolves. It is a family folklore that one of us used to walk on four legs. Send a check for $10 to the address below and I will reveal the name.  If only I had thought of this get-rich scheme years ago – Oprah might be asking me for a loan.

Laurie: Occasionally I actually listen to my guests on Coach World TV, and the Money Relationship Mentor I had on last night stopped me cold in my tracks.  You could actually see me thinking on air (it wasn’t pretty).  Not enough that I have to figure out how to have money to pay the bills, go shopping on a regular basis, and put “save money” on my to-do list.  Now I’m expected to get close and intimate with those lovely green bills that blithely float in and out of my hands.

elizabeth: I would take my money out for dinner but it is a given that they would not be coming home with me. I am not doing dishes just so I can spend some quality time with them. I think one of the nicest things my mother said about me is, when I was little and a kid wanted to borrow a dime, I would give them a quarter just in case. I believe my brother John owes me $58,957.23.

Laurie: What was my first memory of money?  The tooth fairy.  Lose a tooth and whammo – under the pillow the next morning was some money.  Obviously my dentist grew up on another planet because he will not only take the tooth; he’ll charge you a month’s salary while he’s at it.  Anyway, I digress.  How did my mother handle money?  Like a drunken sailor and we loved it.  Christmas we had to rent another house to fit all our Santa gifts under the tree.  And my father?  Uh, he was a little more sober about the whole thing and doubted that my sister and I were worthy of every toy and doll made that year.  Well, I agree with the part about my sister.

elizabeth: My father was the spender. He came up with Bonus Day. One or two days during the calendar year he would declare a Bonus Day. That meant we got to go to the store and buy something. I remember getting three 45 records and I was over the moon. Still have photo_11284_20100109them. I miss my father and his great cassidy holidays.

Laurie: Anyway it’s obvious that I have much work to do.  Why can’t I resist a sale?  Why do I work for free?  These are all fascinating questions with deep-rooted emotions and problematic habits attached.  And I am going to get right on them.  Meanwhile, anybody got the lottery numbers for tonight?

elizabeth: 07,12,42,44,48 and 31.
