Coaches on the Edge are Saying Bye Bye to Congress. Don’t let the Congressional Seal Hit You on the Butt on Your Way Out.
elizabeth: Senator Evan Bayh of Indiana did something a few weeks ago that no other member of Congress has done in the open. He gave Congress the middle finger and is walking away – no re-election campaign for him. Bayh is feeling like millions of Americans are feeling – fed up, pissed off and maybe it’s time we don’t take it anymore. We blogged recently about meteorologists messing up weather predictions 
but I got boots, scarves, umbrellas, ice scrapers, and sun tan lotion so if they mess up, I can still take care of myself and my family. But when Congress doesn’t work together, we learn to live with fewer rights, less money, and we have to listen to them whining like a bunch of babies. I want to give them the middle finger, but I am a lady so I’ll do it when no one is looking. Like now.
Laurie: Now correct me if I’m wrong (like the thought wouldn’t occur to you on your own), but didn’t we just kick some serious Palin butt for quitting her job as Governor of Alaska? I personally didn’t understand why there wasn’t a huge party in the big ole cold state, but I didn’t vote for her. Her constituents did. And she quit on them. Just like Bayh is quitting on both the residents of Indiana and the United States. Stop blowing up balloons; there will be no party at my house for quitters.
elizabeth: I don’t think we should get all over Congressman Bayh for throwing in the towel. Trust me, I am not happy with seeing a democrat walk away, but have you never left a job because your boss was a complete and total moron? If not, I can show you the scars that I got before coming to my senses and heading for the hills. Congress is broken and we as a country have got to fix it.
Laurie: So, Mr. Bayh, what happened to the urge to fix it when the deficit was soaring through the roof, banks were getting away with murder, and people felt comfortable hurling shoes at our President? Now you want to fix it? And you’re fed up because of the bipartisanism? Yeah, that’s a new development – not!
elizabeth: Bayh plans on using the skills and experience he has to make changes in the private sector. That sounds reasonable to me. I don’t think he’s a coward. I applaud him for coming out and saying that he doesn’t like Congress and how they operate. That reality seems to be an unspoken truth and he was the first to say that the remaining members of Congress can take his congressional seat and shove it.
Laurie: Little Evan is taking his toys and going home because he can’t get his way, huh? I remain unimpressed. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Unfortunately in this case, the tough got going to greener pastures and left us all hanging out to dry.
elizabeth: Look at it this way – his announcement did not involve a hooker, a baby or some fool blubbering over a soul mate who doesn’t happen to be his wife. Bayh can come to dinner anytime he likes.
Cynical Laurie: Don’t be surprised when you find Bayh and Palin head to head in the 2012 or 2016 campaign for President of the United States. They could both use the same campaign slogan: “We’re baaaack!” Would serve both of them right if they actually won and had to deal with all the people they quit on. Hopefully the old saying “Winners never quit and quitters never win” will hold true for these two – that would be worthy of blowing up balloons.
