Laurie: Okay, maybe we’re lying and our collective ages are 100…or maybe not. Actually this is our 100th blog. That’s a lot of ranting
and raving, and God bless you, that’s a lot of reading. So why do we mark things in hundred’s? Obama had 100 days to prove his stuff; a century is 100 years; the hundred-yard mark is significant in sports (don’t even try to replace it with kilometers!); and many other important aspects are sectioned off in hundreds. So what does this one hundred mark mean to Coaches on the Edge?
elizabeth: In the words of Sally Field (this poor woman can’t get away from this) it means you like us, you really like us. And I am perfectly fine if you don’t like us. As long as we caused you to think and if you can shake some of those preconceived notions out of your psyche then I have done my work. And I have learned a thing or two while searching the universe for things to write about. That I am not always right, but I am always passionate about what I write. Wait a sec. I am always right.
Laurie: To me it means 100 times that elizabeth and I collaborated, argued, danced around, and compromised to bring a blog to life. And there are some that still make us laugh – elizabeth’s beaded bra and my green mask easily come to mind – and some still capable of making us cry. Not gonna mention those because then I’ll cry. And what has kept us going has been the fantastic response to what we write. To have such intelligent, caring, and thoughtful people react to what we write is almost as good as $100,000 secretly deposited into our bank accounts as compensation for our efforts. Almost but not quite!
elizabeth: It is not always easy having a writing partner. Just ask Laurie. Laurie is an almost southerner disguised as a New Yorker and I am a New Yorker pissed off that my address does not have a Manhattan zip code. And yet we get along. Our life experiences are different and we view the world with different prescription in our glasses. But we come together and the words flow. 100 times we have taken an idea, a national event, a tragedy of worldly proportions and carefully carved it into a conversation filled with a little compassion, and healthy doses of wit and sarcasm. Since the mix seems to blend effortless (most of the time) maybe we should do a cookbook for blog 200.
And you can make that $100,000 check out to me. Since I shared a 100 blogs with Laurie, I’ll share the check. I’ll make her a Xerox.
